Keep Your Passion for Photography Alive

Number4   …A familiar number here in Wisconsin. No matter if you follow football or not, you know who I am talking about. You may support his decisions, you may be upset about his decisions, or you may just not care. One thing is for sure, number 4 is passionate about the game of football. When he is having fun even at the age of forty and with all of the changes in his career he is like a kid who just got a brand new toy.

He has always been that way. Thanks to Kodak back in the film days I have had several opportunities to meet and work with him on and off the field. He was always so excited to see new images; other players could have cared less.

What does this have to do with photography?

You will have to look long and hard to find another industry today where there is the same amount of passion involved in the end product, as you do in the photography industry. Where the creator of the image, or the end product puts as much heart and soul into its creation, into its presentation, and strives to better themselves with seminars and education as you find in our industry.

Having spent a couple days in Chicago with 200 photographers from all over the United States at EXPO 09, I had the opportunity to see this first hand. Even though it was a jam packed two days of education, Photographers were excited, rejuvenated, and motivated for the upcoming Holiday Season. Just by taking time to attend, they had taken time for them! The artist, the creator, and the small business owner, to get their passions going. Several speakers touched on this time of year in their programs... You have been shooting like crazy. You have been doing art work and editing to the wee hours of the morning. You’re looking at a troubled economy. You’re down to the fourth quarter of the year.

Don’t forget to keep the kid in you!  Work on an image that you love. Take some time to shoot something you are passionate about. Do that holiday marketing idea you have always wanted to do but never found the time. Finish that competition image you have never gotten around to.

Keep your passion for photography alive.

Great seeing and talking to you all at EXPO 09!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CROWN ELITE GUEST BOOK AND HALLMARK?

Personalization…of course!

I hear from so many photographers that say they do engagement sessions because they have to in order to get the Wedding Booking.

Trox_A

Not true anymore! Many wedding photographers have discovered that they can now provide a saleable guest book for weddings from an engagement session. The Burrell Crown Elite lay-flat books are perfect as a Guest Book with thick writeable pages, personalized layout, and amazing turnaround time.

The Crown Elite book is no longer just for Seniors and Babies!

A traditional guest book is what ?

A record of who attended a wedding, nothing more nothing less. Then it ends up in a drawer after the Thank You cards are written. In attending wedding shows, visiting my local Hallmark store and research online you can find guest books for anywhere from $50.00 to well over $300.00 . Service time can range from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on your cover or design.

A Crown Elite guest book can be personalized from cover to cover. It is a coffee table book and much more. It can contain images, personal notes and a record of their special day that they will not want to put away in a drawer.

With our easy to use ordering software, you can custom design and create a guest book online, upload the order and have it shipped to you the next day for a fraction of the cost that some other places charge for a custom guest book.

Thanks to Diane Bentfield of Bentfield Photography who sent images of a book she recently delivered to a Friday night rehearsal after ordering it on Monday. She shared in her email that the Aunt of the Bride actually cried in seeing it at the rehearsal… you cannot get a better endorsement than a reaction like that!

Seniors - What ARE They Thinking?

I attended a May 18th seminar in Waukesha ,WI  with Burrell Mentors, Andrew Jenkins and Jackie Palmer of Canfield Jenkins House of Photography   What a fun and educational day! Everyone who attended really got involved in shared ideas, frustrations, asked questions, and really left at the end of the day excited to move forward.   If you have not had the opportunity to hear or see their program, they will be at

It was a SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHERS DAY .

We talked about everything from Facebook to the colors seniors will be wearing this year, and some fun ways to find and create backgrounds to go with those colors!

Marketing successes, and yes…marketing flops. After all learning from mistakes is part of building a business. Even though it is a flop in your area, it may actually succeed in a different area; it all depends on your market. We even had a National name brand store get involved in this meeting with seniors information. How great is that?

It was a beautiful sunny day in Wisconsin that is until Andrew went outside to shoot late in the afternoon. Then everyone got a chance to shoot in cloudy, windy, wet WI weather. Hey it happens!

I love the phrase that Andrew and Jackie use:
“Let’s face it the senior market has changed! Do you find yourself asking ‘What are They Thinking’ “

I have a daughter who will be a Junior next year and I ask myself that question every time she has friends over!

Passion for Photography

So what happens when you bring a photographer from upstate New York to Milwaukee, Wisconsin ?

You put him on stage and surround him with 70 Southeastern Wisconsin Photographers. Then you soon find out that everyone has one thing in common...  A PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY

East Coast or Midwest, it really didn't matter. Rain or not,  All shared ideas,    blog concepts,  website thoughts, and even umbrellas in the rain.

Steve Chesler  ...If his name sounds familiar, his work is on the cover of the most recent theRainbow.

Follow the link below for this issue of theRainbow

Steve was our Speaker at the September 8th Southeastern Wisconsin Professional Photographers of America  meeting here in Milwaukee.  His program was based on Website Marketing, Blog Marketing, Video Light, and  his uncanny ability to Trash a Dress  Tastefully!

See his Blog for more information > Cheslerphotography.blogspot.com   >  You will also find more images of his shoot in the rain in Milwaukee there.

I think there was some skepticism when I, as an active member of SEWPPA, said I wanted to bring an East Coast Photographer to the Midwest.  But it was fun to see that all melt away when Steve described how he envies the Midwest's high school senior sales, while everyone in the Midwest envies the big ticket East Coast weddings...  A common ground was soon established. It started to rain by mid afternoon just when we were to go on location to shoot. This only added to the Trash the Dress concept.

For more information on upcoming meetings go to    SEWPPA

A huge Thank You to the models who posed and stood in the rain to make this all happen. And Thanks also to Steve and his sister Ellen for traveling to Milwaukee, working in the rain, and to share their ideas and concepts in photography.  And finally a Thanks of course my fellow SEWPPA Board members who make every SEWPPA meeting possible.

Until next time keep the passion alive...     Troxel
